#TakeOff – In Your City – 7 Nooks and crannies of Delhi

Every weekend there’s this struggle of what to do, where to go eat, what event to attend, what food festival to hunt for. Annoyed with this overwhelming need to do the usual I’ve spent the last few weekends snuggled in my couch watching Newsroom and Sherlock alternatively. Oh Benedict, as much as I love you, I also crave a little bit of the outside world. No more will I spend any more free time doing nothing.

With that resolve, I set out to look for the parts of Delhi that are yet to be discovered by the likes of me. It’s funny really, having lived here most my life you’d think I would know this place better. Alas, I couldn’t be more wrong!

I’ve put together a list of 7 places in the hidden nooks and crannies of Delhi that you HAVE TO VISIT! Read on to learn things you never knew existed.

1. The bird’s eye view of the city – Atop the minaret!

Have you ever looked out of your window from an airplane? It looks quiet and serene on the top while there is countless activity going on down there. People going to work, chaatwalas setting up shop, kids going to school, couples looking for secret spots, drama that every Indian household comes with.

This is the exact same feeling you would get if you stand on top of the minaret in Jama Masjid and see the spell bounding view of the old city.

2. Under the stars

A starry night and a beautiful walk is all you need to make that weekend special for yourself and your loved ones. Add a camera to the equation and you have the perfect formula for an unforgettable night. We would start of at dusk, at the beautifully green Lodhi Gardens and then make our way towards the tombs, lakes and corners of this garden to capture the moonlit beauty it is every single night. Yes, while you are at it you would also pick up a thing or two about photography. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Start of with Moti Mahal Restaurent in Daryaganj and hear of the brief history of Delhi standing right at its soul, Chandni Chowk. You could feel the words taking you through the time and giving you an experience that your city once went through.

Starting from the Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station, it will move up Cavalry Lane and past Gwyer Hall to circumambulate Flagstaff Tower, skim by Khooni Jheel, wander up Pir Gaib, rest in the veranda of Hindu Rao, ruminate under the shadow of the Mutiny Memorial, and end with supper in Kamla Nagar.
